Fred Plumer

President of The Center for Progressive Christianity, in the US.

After an extensive background in building management, real estate development and restaurant ownership and management, Fred Plumer made a career shift in 1981. He earned his M.Div. degree at the Pacific School of Religion. In 1984 Rev. Plumer was called to the Irvine United Congregational Church in Irvine, California to lead a UCC new church start. The church became known throughout the denomination as one of the more exciting and progressive mid-size congregations in the nation.

In 1996 Rev. Plumer became a member of the Executive Council for The Center for Progressive Christianity, he was the author of the first Study Guide for TCPC’s “Eight Points” and has just published The Study Guide for the 2011 revised “Eight Points.” He has published numerous articles on church development, building faith communities and redefining the purpose of the enlightened Christian Church.

In September of 2004 Rev. Plumer retired from the Irvine church so he could devote more time to writing and reclaiming the message of Jesus. In January of 2006 after Jim Adams, founder of The Center for Progressive Christianity retired as President, Fred was elected as the new President and Acting Director of the organization. Since that time the TCPC website (now ProgressiveChristianity.org) has become one of the most active religious websites in the country, with literally thousands of individual supporters, churches and a monthly eBulletin that currently goes out to a mailing list of nearly 15,000 individuals and churches. In 2010 under Reverend Plumer’s guidance, ProgressiveChristianity.org published a 200 page children’s curriculum that has received rave reviews in three countries. A second edition will be published in the spring.

Fred continues manage the growing PC.org organization and to write, travel, teach and speak across the country on the importance of re-examining the Christian faith for the 21st century.
