Richard Holloway at Swanwick 2013, a DVD
As part of the November 2013 Being Honest to God conference at Swanwick, Derbyshire, Richard Holloway gave a well received speech about the role of church and religion and our conceptions of God. The talk includes many historical examples and personal stories. He concludes that we invent religion in order to conjoin love and the future tense. Religion is a work of art “representing mystery and the possibility that there may be a meaning in a universe that scarily might have not have a meaning”. The DVD runs for over over an hour and includes the questions and responses that followed the talk. This makes an idea starter for group discussion. You can find a transcript of the talk and a list of discussion questions in the book of the conference, published by the Together in Hope partnership
