About Us

Anyone willing to explore issues of spirituality, the Bible and Christian faith in an open-minded way is welcome at East Shropshire and Wolverhampton PCN. Some of us would still call ourselves 'Christians'; some wouldn't, but we seek to listen to and learn from each other, without judgement. We are only a small group who meet occasionally or for a shared meal now and again, but members are also encouraged to join in with wider PCN events and on-line webinars etc.

We are planning a series of ZOOM meetings in the Autumn (2nd Monday evening in the month) on 'By Way of the Heart' by Mark Oakley, a collection of innovative sermons following the Christian year. Anyone is welcome. Email Ben if you would like to be sent the link.

Our convenor is also the author of 'The Apostate's Creed' which has been read by many local PCN groups. His new book 'On Not Being a Christian' was published in March 2022. FREE to PCN members, groups and supporters. See his website for more information: and the 'Bulletin' section here.

Group History

We began meeting in summer 2011 after David Cotterell, a member of the congregation at St Mary's Albrighton, had invited John Churcher to give a talk which sparked interest in progressive Christianity. Encouraged by the then vicar, Jill Warren, who was not a member, David formed a PCN group

Our list of topics that have been discussed or studied is long and varied and includes: pilgrimage, the Jewish roots of Christianity, Sikhism, the history of marriage in the Bible, the myths of Christmas, Creeds and DVD lectures on the BCE and CE ideas of God.
