Denny, of the local YMCA will lead us in a discussion about what it means to be both Christian and inclusive. This is what the YMCA claims on its websites to be. Church goers have long moaned about people not coming in and this only shows how naive they are in focussing on getting people through the doors for a fixed meeting. Being conversations and dialogue without power or hidden agenda and there is no lack of interest in spirituality. The freedom and difference that Jesus makes to all sense and meaning is a different approach from that of getting people onto cold church seats.

Quaker Faith and Practice A CD from Exeter PCN meeting about the history of Quakerism and its members' variety of theological perspectives, focussing on a way of life rather than assent to forms of words or creeds. In addition to listening to the CD & discussion it is proposed that we allow time for discussion on the future programme. Hopefully we will be able to establish an outline programme with dates of meetings through to December this year.

This meeting falls during Holy Week and Sue Goddard will facilitate discussion on the way stories and myth have such impact, even as with some of those from the scriptures, we do not take them as literally true or historically accurate. Sue is asking if people could share which secular stories or myths whether from literature, poetry or film speak to you and to try and tease out why and discuss this in the context of exploring the Christian story.

This is the title of a book by Jonathan Sacks, dealing with religious violence. We shall examine some of the attitudes and thinking of religious people, rather than actions, which has led to violence. We shall examine some of the Genesis stories which show the case against religious violence and how too often the Old Testament has been wrongly interpreted. We shall also refer to the teaching of Jesus.
