Morning Prayer (freshly envisaged)

Envisaged by Michael Hell

“I was taking out all mention of God and gender while trying to retain some of the pattern and rhythm of the original. I see this kind of prayer as ‘mood music’ whose regular recitation trains my mind to become more human and to make more appropriate decisions.”

MORNING PRAYER

“And now remain faith, hope, love, these three: but the greatest of these is love.”

O Love, open our lips:
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Glory be to Love in this world,
As it was, is now and ever shall be. Amen

One thing I have asked of Love, this is what I seek:
That I may dwell in Love all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of Love and to seek it where it may be found.

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us. As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of Love set our hearts on fire today and always. Amen.

Psalm 100:
Rejoice in Love, all the earth!
Serve Love with gladness! Greet it with a song.
Know that it is Love that makes the world go round:
The life of Love gives perfect freedom.
Enter its gates with thanksgiving, and its courts with praise:
Give thanks to it and bless it!
For Love is good and endures steadfast for ever,
Faithful to all generations.

The Reading

A Celtic Collect:
Love, as a light illumine and guide us. Love, as a shield, over shadow us. Love under us, Love over us, Love beside us and on our left and our right. This day be within and without us, lowly and meek, yet all powerful. Be in the heart of each to whom we speak; in the mouth of each who speak to us. This day be within and without us, lowly and meek, yet all powerful. Love as a light, Love as a shield, Love beside us on our left and our right. Amen.

All-embracing Love,
We bless you within and without and around us.
May we work for justice and harmony in this world.
May we have to-day sufficient bread to nourish body and soul.
When we stray from your way, may we remember you and turn back, and love our neighbour as ourselves.
May we not be tested, but kept safe from harm. Amen.

Love bless us and preserve us from all evil, and keep us ever in the present moment. Amen

“And now remain faith, hope and love, these three: but the greatest of these is Love.”
