Soren Kierkegaard (1813-55) has variously been described as the gloomy Dane, the grandfather of existentialism and the Eeyore of philosophy! He is particularly associated with the phrase “the leap of faith”. What did he mean by it? What did he make of Abraham’s recorded willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac?
