The Palmer Players write about their project: “This is a new kind of community theatre in which our small team has been brought together and empowered through a formation process that includes contemplative prayer and other elements of the shared religious life. In the face of a widespread perception that Christianity is not really a spiritual religion at all, our drama project seeks to demonstrate that life in the Spirit - or Light - can be an exciting, challenging and inclusive experience that will also evoke a compassionate response to those who are disadvantaged within the wider community.”

As one audience member wrote: “This is a play on many levels. It requires concentration and demands that we think. It is evangelistic in its aim in believing that people can find faith in God whatever their circumstances and their past. It believes in the creation of communities of faith but only through a clear recognition that we are vulnerable human beings who need one another. It contains a strong critique of institutional religion. This is not a play for the faint hearted.”

The project is also grounded in the experience of The Full Spiritual Exercises by Ignatius Loyola (1491 – 1556). Neil Macdonald, the writer, found these exercises a life-changing experience and, like the early Jesuits, sees them as having a wide relevance, being appropriate for those of all Christian denominations or none.

Each performance starts at 7.30pm and will be followed by a discussion around the themes of the play - help, healing and harmony
