In Search of the Common Good

In Search of the Common Good

The Inaugural Rev’d Dr Denis Duncan Memorial Lecture will be given by John Bell of the Iona Community.

John L Bell is a well-known hymn-writer, speaker, and broadcaster. A Church of Scotland minister, he is a member of the Iona Community, a broadcaster, and former student activist. He works throughout the world, lecturing in theological colleges in the UK, Canada and the United States, but is primarily concerned with the renewal of congregational worship at the grass roots level. In recent years he has become a popular, and sometimes controversial, contributor to the BBC’s Thought for the Day, as well as attracting large audiences at events such as the Greenbelt Christian Festival.

The Reverend Denis Duncan, who sadly died at the beginning of 2014, was a distinguished Church of Scotland Minister who had a particular interest in the fields of journalism, communication, and healing.

This lecture, the first in what is planned to be an annual series, is intended to commemorate Denis Duncan’s long association with the Guild of Health, and to continue his great gifts as a Christian communicator who desired to resonate with contemporary theology.

There will be an opportunity to meet John Bell after the Lecture at a short reception to be held in the Crypt Hall at St Marylebone Parish Church.
