Liberalism, religious and otherwise, is under siege. Many liberal congregations are in decline; authoritarian impulses infest our social and political cultures; fake news and shrill slogans drown out reasoned argument and nuance; meanness and stinginess overpower openness and generosity. What kind of liberal theology is possible in these circumstances? Paul Rasor will argue that liberal theology today must be a theology of resistance, radical inclusiveness, and liberation.

Paul Rasor taught law, theology and religious studies for 30 years at American institutions, most recently as professor at Virginia Wesleyan College. He is currently visiting professor of law at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. His books include: Reclaiming Prophetic Witness: Liberal Religion in the Public Square; and Faith without Certainty: Liberal Theology in the 21st Century. He is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister.
