Charity is still not enough

An offering to the debate about the future of Capitalism

The Occupy movement has gained the respect of many Christians, especially those who appreciate the revolutionary nature of Jesus’s teachings.  Andrew Parker, (http://bibleincartoons.co.uk/), has long argued that those who follow Jesus should think more radically about a system that produces so many marginalised people.  The message he takes from the New Testament is not one that the economically dominant will find comfortable.  PCN reproduces here the first of two articles that Andrew Parker wrote about the attitude of the rich towards the marginalised under the title ‘Charity as Beside the Point’.

The second has just been added.  Discussing the condescending nature of charity, Andrew Parker claims we should ask not what we can do to for others, but what we can do for ourselves.  Those who have been marginalised can already see what we cannot see; how we much are tied into the existing domination system.
