St Columbas, Oxford United Reformed Church was formed in 1908 as a chaplaincy to Reformed/NonConformist students at Oxford University.  By 1914, the chaplaincy had grown and become an English Presbyterian Church.  Originally we were home to a significant number of people of Scots ancestry.  Over the years, we’ve become more diverse in ancestry and age while retaining a Celtic feel and a ministry to students.  (Currently, we are enjoying a mini-explosion of children under the age of 6!)  Throughout the years we have remained committed to preaching and embodying a searching and thought-provoking gospel.  Our site in the city centre enables us to carry out a ministry of welcome for diverse peoples; in 2009, we won a Multicultural Ministry Award from the United Reformed Church.  For the last five years, we have enjoyed a ministry and mission with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people called FirstSunday – a safe and affirming place to explore issues of faith.  We like to say at the beginning of every service: Whoever you are, and wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!
